Title: Determinants of Occupational and Sectoral Mobility in Kyrgyzstan
Authors: Baetova, Nurzhan
Issue Date: Feb-2024
Abstract: This research paper aims to analyze the determinants of occupational and sectoral mobility in Kyrgyzstan. It explores the factors that influence individuals to switch between occupations and sectors within the country's labor market. The study addresses the lack of comprehensive investigations on this topic in Kyrgyzstan and contributes to the existing body of knowledge on labor market dynamics in the country. The research questions address the main determinants of occupational and sectoral mobility, and potential differences between the two. The analysis is based on a quantitative design using panel data from the "Life in Kyrgyzstan" Study, which collected data on households and individuals in Kyrgyzstan from 2013 to 2019 with three-year intervals. The analysis focuses on individual-level, workplace-based, and residency-related factors that may impact occupational and sectoral mobility. The logistic regression model is used to examine the determinants of mobility. The expected findings will shed light on the specific determinants associated with occupational and sectoral mobility in Kyrgyzstan. The results will provide insights for policymakers and researchers to design targeted interventions and strategies that promote labor market flexibility, efficiency, and equity.
