Kazakhstan in Global Mediation: the War and the Space

Abstract

The thesis, entitled "Kazakhstan in Global Mediation: War and Space," is research of Kazakhstan’s role in international mediation, focusing on the Ukrainian- Russian war and space diplomacy. The work delves into the theoretical foundations of international relations, especially the English School, and the concept of middle powers in global politics. The study highlights the evolution of Kazakhstan's foreign policy since the collapse of the Soviet Union, emphasizing its multi-pronged approach and strategic use of mediation. Key themes include Kazakhstan's involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian war and space diplomacy based on the Baikonur Cosmodrome, demonstrating its possible transition from a peripheral power to a significant middle power. The thesis carefully examines the dynamics of international mediation and Kazakhstan's strategic position in world affairs, advocating for increasing influence, institutionaliztion and recognition of the country in the international arena.
