dc.description.abstractFood-processing is a strategically important industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. At present, it faces numerous problems, such as high production costs, high prices, and low competitiveness of produced goods. Yet, at the same time, the food-processing industry is capable of considerable growth in the future, which indicates both great challenges and great prospects for its development, provided that it can overcome the former. One of the advantages of the concept of sustainable development is that it emphasizes the need to take into account not only economic but also social and environmental aspects. As such the application of the sustainable development approach can provide great insights into the issues faced by the food-processing industry and expand the range of available solutions.en_US
