Based on the resource nationalism theory, that argues that natural resources should benefit the whole population rather than used for private gain, the research presents an analysis of the main measures used by resource-rich countries that face with the expansionist policies of China in the energy sector. The thesis examines the applicability of the experience in using regulatory measures towards a more stable investment environment and a greater sense of legitimacy in government relations of Kazakhstan with China. Drawing on the examples of other resource-rich countries, the thesis provides relevant lessons for Kazakhstan’s policy against China’s expansionism in the oil and gas sector.en_US
