The thesis aims to discuss food policies to prevent food crises in three Central Asian countries: Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The research elaborates on the understanding of the food security concept and its political economy. An overview of food policies and analysis of their implementation by the states domestically is offered in order to gain a better idea of the state regime, and its economic and political background. Due to specific political and social background of each of the three focus states, the characteristics of political commitments, social development and economic growth of the given states, this thesis attempts to understand why decision-makers choose certain policies that lead to the difference in food security approaches taken by the Kyrgyz, Tajik and Uzbek governments.en_US
