Abstract: Food-processing is a strategically important industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. At present, it faces numerous problems, such as high production costs, high prices, and low competitiveness of produced goods. Yet, at the same time, the food-processing industry is capable of considerable growth in the future, which indicates both great challenges and great prospects for its development, provided that it can overcome the former. One of the advantages of the concept of sustainable development is that it emphasizes the need to take into account not only economic but also social and environmental aspects. Title: Kyrgyzstan and the Eurasian Economic Union: Trade Diversion in Specific Markets

Abstract: The aim of this study is quantitative evaluate the possible trade creation and trade diversion effects of Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union by the example of three commodities which are rice, particle board and uncoated paper and paperboard. This research belongs to the ex-ante camp of studies, since it attempts to estimate the abovementioned effects before the country’s accession to the Union. The paper employs the SMART model designed by the World Bank and UNCTAD specialists to evaluate to effects of the in country’s trade policy changes, in particular, trade creation and trade diversion effects, effect on tariff revenues, welfare effects as well as total trade effect of a trade policy. Title: Foreign Aid and Rent-Seeking: Case of CIS Region

Abstract: The stated goal of foreign aid is to promote economic development, accompanied with good governance and low level of corruption. However, the ability of foreign aid to fulfil this purpose is doubtful. These doubts are partly based on the possible phenomenon of rent-seeking, which role as a challenge for aid’s effective use is investigating in many conceptual and empirical researches. This work is assigned to explore the link between foreign aid and rent-seeking, reflecting in increased level of corruption, in CIS region during the period between 2002 and 2012. In order to conduct such analysis, econometric model with instrumental variables application was established. The obtained results unveiled the significant role of foreign aid as a provoker of corruption in the selected countries. Abstract: The Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) is a major aluminum production plant in Tajikistan. Moreover, TALCO has a great contribution to aluminum production in whole Central Asian region. Counting the fact that TALCO contributes a significant share to industrial production and export, the paper aims to investigate the sustainability of plant’s development. Moreover, the paper will seek the governmental plans for future perspectives of TALCO and identify to what extent that plan addresses the issues that the smelter faces. Further, the paper will look at possible case scenarios that may be applicable to TALCO. The paper uses qualitative research methodology, where data is obtained from primary and secondary sources. In processing primary information, the paper uses simple analysis and applies obtained data in narrative form throughout the work.2015-01-01T00:00:00Z
